Could’ve, Would’ve, Should’ve

“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did” – Mark Twain

Sophomore year, I was accepted into my school’s award-winning study abroad program and foolishly turned it down. I’ve been in abusive relationships,  partook in plenty of way-to-drunken nights, and binged on bbq until I puked, but not going abroad in undergrad has been my biggest and only regret in life. At the time, I thought it was the responsible thing to do. Studying abroad is too expensive. I’m graduating early this way. I’ll have to quit my well-paying job.  There were numerous, albeit valid excuses not to go and still I couldn’t shake the pang of jealousy every time someone even mentioned their travels.  While they yammered on about the Louvre or their favorite bars in Prague, I couldn’t help but think, I wish that were me. Until it hit me, it could’ve been me. It’s really easy to doubt and worry yourself into not doing something when you are so focused on the “plan.” Sometimes, you just have to put down the map and let your heart be your guide.  Wherever it takes you, you can be sure it will be an adventure you’ll never regret.
